Leg 1, Day 3: Pontiac to Bloomington
Cyclemeter App: Distance: 36.92 miles, Total 160.12 miles (45.2% of the way)
Early morning departure in a cool, light fog.
Video of our early morning ride out of Pontiac:
I named my first Catrike The Silver Streak. As it turns out, that train made famous by the movie of that name parallels (I think) Route 66, or at least I’m going with that story.
The below video shows both “Historic 66” and “Old 66” and how bike-path-friendly additions are being made to one of the lanes of Historic 66.
The twin cities of Bloomington-Normal, like many college towns are bike path oriented:
Note: I mis-spoke in the video when I said Bloomington-Normal was the location of “Northern Illinois University” (NIU). NIU is in DeKalb, Illinois. Bloomington-Normal is the home of “Illinois State University,” not to be confused with the ‘flagship’ state university, “The University of Illinois” at Champaign-Urbana.
